Lovely as a Tree

An exhibition on the culture of trees explored through our collections

Poster for exhibition showing Schomburgk's watercolour of a Mora tree

This exhibition ran from February to June 2024

In this exhibition, we explored the use and representation of trees through our collections. We look at how trees are represented in natural history illustration, iconic trees, economic botany, and the exploitation of trees. Rare books, manuscripts, specimens, artefacts, photographs, and original art help to tell the story of our relationship with trees.

This exhibition also complemented a one-day conference organised collaboratively between Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Linnean Society of London. The conference, Tree Cultures: Words, Woods and Well-Being, was held on 29 February 2024.
