The Linnaean Annotated Library
Last week, the Linnaean Annotated Library went live on our Online Collections. The 197 titles and over 60,000 images are now available for you to browse.
This online collection is part of the personal library of Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) held here at the Linnean Society, which includes the books Linnaeus used as reference material (some 1,600 volumes). This online collection, in particular, consists of Linnaeus' personal copies of his own works, spanning from 1735 to 1776, many of them interleaved and copiously annotated in his own hand. His notes, annotations, scribbled references, comments and corrections are an incredibly rich resource for understanding the processes and sources that led to some of the most influential works in the history of science.
